Lose Weight - Put An End to Late Night Eating

By Bill Vlass When I first began losing weight (110lbs to be exact!) one thing that I did was to make sure that I did not eat past 7 o clock pm. It didn’t matter to me how hungry I was I would not eat after that time each night. Today I’m not nearly as strict on myself as I was when I weighed a whopping 287lbs. Here are some ideas however when it’s late and you just have to have something to eat or if you get an occasional sweet tooth. 1. Have a coke I know they are filled with sugar and empty calories but they have 0 fat grams. Eating too much fat can often lead to weight gain and you can bet that the worst time to eat a high fat meal is a few hours before you go to bed. Have a coke instead it may be just what you need to curb your appetite. 2. Have a piece of fruit Ahhh. If there are any doctors reading this I can hear them saying “Now that’s better!” Fruit is good and good for you. You can choose whatever type of fruit you like, watermelon, mangos, a bannana, an orange, an apple, etc. 3. Have a big glass of water flavored with lemon juice Often when you feel hungry it’s not that you are hungry as much as you are thirsty so instead of reaching for that leftover bowl of spaghetti sitting in the fridge drink some water instead. 4. Have a fat free piece of candy A small piece of candy won’t hurt you weight-wise before bed time and it may be very beneficial if it keeps you from binging before you hit the sack. 5. Think about the next day Oftentimes we make decisions without prior thought to their ramifacations. Think about what it will be like to wake up in the morning, weighing a little less and also about the nice breakfast you are going to have upon rising. Sometimes this is enough to cause you to forgo the late night meal and wait until morning when you can enjoy your breakfast knowing that you are still right on track. These are just a few things you can do to help alleviate the urge for late night eating. Late night eating will pack on the pounds quicker than just about anything so avoid it as much as possible. Be sure to remember that before implementing any of these dieting strategies to check with your family physician first. For example: If you are on a special diet that restricts you from having sugar then don’t start eating sugary foods just because you read it here. Body Mass Index Chart Misleading

By Jim O’Connor Remember when the body mass index chart first came out? People were running to calculators trying to find out if they are considered overweight and unhealthy. Many, especially athletes, were quickly shocked to find out they were labeled obese. I’m even talking about lean professional athletes who were the picture perfect image of strength, power, and health. After calculating their body mass index (BMI), many were shocked to find out their calculated number indicated a detriment to their health. So how do you calculate this number anyway? First off, you can be lazy and go to consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm, and have the computer tell you the answer. However, if you want to calculate it yourself simply multiply your weight in pounds by 703 then divide the square of your height in inches. It is that simple. Now after using a body mass index calculator you get your bignumber. What does it mean? In most cases, not a heck of a lot. First of all, your BMI doesn’t distinguish muscle from fat. You could have a body fat percentage of 8%, with a lot of added muscle, and the body mass index chart will say you are obese, and could be at risk for significant health issues. Now let’s take the opposite. Suppose you have never exercised a day in your life and your body fat is 30%, but you weight less than the fit person with an 8% level of body fat. The BMI chart might suggest your weight is right where it should be, and you are at very little risk for health challenges. This is where the BMI Chart is misleading. Recent studies have even shown a weak and inconsistent correlation between a high BMI and disease or early mortality. How then can we get an accurate assessment of our link betweenweight, and disease? My recommendations are to incorporate a multiple assessment such as the following: 1. Body fat percentage should be calculated and considered. 2. Take measurements of you waist, hips, and height. Calculate your waist-to-hip ratio, divide the waist measurementby the hip measurement. Men should be under 0.9, and womenshould be under 0.8. A good guideline for men is to keep their waists well under 40 inches, and women under 35 inches. Your waist should be one half your height. Now these are roughestimates since many factors go into determining your risk level. For instance, how much exercise do you get? What type of foods do you consume? However, If your numbers are not in the zone mentioned above, it is time to take action and start exercising and cutting back on calories. Always consider your body fat percentage versus your leanmuscle tissue. Keep the body fat as low as possible, preferably under 30% for both men and women. Don’t rely on the body mass index charts to dictate yourchance for disease. Use the multiple approach I have outlined above. However, to find someone you want to spend your life with, you have to move on and plan a realistic time scale to move forward. Dating tips are just that, as everyone is an individual, and what works for one does not work for another. However there are fairly standard steps you can devise to succeed. There is no reason that you have to spend the rest of your life going out on your own, and eating solitary TV dinners. 1. DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY You may have been dropped, but it may not be your fault. You may have a holistic approach to your emotional life, but maybe your date did not. Even if you accept that the break up is coming, it still hurts, it is traumatic. Age is not a great help here, it is always difficult to accept rejection. 2. WALLOW AND GRIEVE FOR YOUR LOSS Accept the fact that the first couple of days are the hardest mentally and that once you have survived that you are on a roll to picking yourself up, and dusting yourself and getting back into the fray. If you feel like bawling your eyes out, and eating buckets of cookies, that’s O. K. for a couple of days. If you need to get help and support from your friends then ask them to help. The most damaging thing that you can do to your self esteem is to go back and contact your ex. That means e- mail, text and telephone, try and let it go. You are trying to pick yourself up to start again, there is no point in going back. You have to try and bury it with dignity, and whatever you have to do to achieve that, then go for it. If it means moping around, then mope. If it means having a makeover, then do it. 3. BURY ANY EVIDENCE OF YOUR EX Whilst you are feeling annoyed, angry or disgruntled, and let down, destroy any painful reminders of your ex, such as photos. Try not to listen to music that meant something to both of you, it is OK to wallow in your grief, but do not rub salt in an open wound. This does not mean that you will never listen to that music again, you may even speak to your ex again, but give yourself an even money chance to heal now. 4. MAKE A LIST Where you have taken down the photographs of your ex, replace it with a list. Draw up a list of the things, that really annoyed you about your ex. NoI don’t believe you - there has to be something!, if you are thinking he/she was perfect, you are idealizing him. The more humorous this list is the better you will feel, give yourself a laugh even if only through a veil of tears. Part of the pain of being dumped is that it is something that is outside your control, you may accept that the relationship was pear shaped, and maybe you wanted to end it, but being dumped meant someone else did it to you. You will survive this, focus on the bad things, and try and accept that you perhaps should have wanted out anyway. There are occasions when you think that everything was hunky dorey, and it comes a bolt out of the blue. That is tougher to accept, but accept it you must. Strange things happen in life, but there is no way that you can make someone love you. The reasons people fall in love are as diverse as the people who do it, butthere is no way you can make someone do so. If you have done this then attempt to learn a valuable lesson, don’t invest time in going down that road in the future. 5. SURVIVE THE FIRST WEEK Right you have managed the first couple of days and you are now thinking what next. Find the hope levels inside you, underneath the layers we all have different hope levels. When Pandora opened the box, all the evil in the world came out, but left inside the box was hope. It is our ultimate defence that we believe that a situation will get better. If you are struggling to find hope then dig down deeper. Hope stops you wallowing in your own misery, if you need to mope, do it in the early on, and then set a time limit. Wallowing for too long a period of time, makes you feel worse, and reduces your self esteem. Set realistic time limits to move on as fast as possible. Yes I know it hurts, we all know that because it has happened to every single one of us at sometime or another. If youstill have a desperate need to wallow then say to yourself - yes I can every day from say 3.00. P.M. - 3.30 P.M., but focus on getting your head back together in the remaining times of the day. Force yourself to get out although it may be the last thing on the planet that you feel like doing. Try exercising during the week,and see how much better you feel afterwards. 6. PAMPER YOURSELF AND BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE You have been through the mangle, but don’t let yourself be destroyed. Think about all the things that make you a unique person, as well as the reasons why you deserve to be loved in your own right. Everyone has the right to be loved, so don’t lose the sight of this fact. Have a manicure and a pedicure, go and getsome retail therapy and enjoy yourself. Even if you are a guy buy yourself something that you have been wanting for ages. Go on treat yourself. Make yourself feel important and valued as a person. 7. GET BACK IN THE DATING ARENA After a month your psyche should be starting to heal, think about your gaols, what do you want out of dating, and make it happen.(at least in terms of dates rather than a long term relationship. 8. ENJOY YOURSELF Don’t start taking dating too seriously, it is meant to be fun not a sophisticated type of torture. By Mikael Rieck Ever since man walked the earth there has been a focus on food. The main reason is naturally that humans can not live without food. In the Stone Age people gathered berries and killed animals in the area where they lived. This gave them a natural combination of minerals, vitamins, fats and proteins etc. that was vital for their survival and wellbeing. If we skip to present time a lot of things has changed (luckily) and naturally so has the food that we eat. Unfortunately most of the changes are not for the better if we look through nutritional glasses. Pollution, massive industrial growth manipulation and alteration of genes have done its part in removing natural ingredients from our food. On the other hand science has been able to find out that we actually need the different vitamins and minerals that food contains, which they obviously didnt know back in the Stone Age. So at least we now know what were actually eating and what we are not. All since the late 90s and all through 200X people have become more and more aware of the effects that a healthy diet has on the human body. Unfortunately most of it has been brought to our attention due to illnesses brought on by bad nutritional diets which is caused by a lot of factors. One of them is the giant boom in the fast food industry when science works intensively on creating low cost food that is manufactured so that the human instincts tells him to eat until he can hold no more. Obviously this is not healthy and it is seen by the massive increase in people being overweight and the many lifestyle illnesses. Luckily it doesnt take an unreasonable amount of effort to eat a healthier meal that the average human. All you will need to do it pay a little more attention to what you put into your mouth. Most fast food is not healthy and if youre really busy or really not interested in learning how to keep your body (which youll have to life with the rest of your life), then take the shortcut and just avoid all fast food. Just go to the grocery store and pick a colorful diet from the vegetables and the low fat meat. Most people know this but even so they are not doing it. If you are one of those my suggestion is simple. Try using a nutritional supplement instead. There are many products out there (some better than other) but my guess is that no matter which one you chose it will be better than living from one fast food meal to the next. Remember that you will only have this one body from the day you are born to the day that you die. If you are not the type of person that wants to live in a dirty home then why would you ever think of living in a dirty and unhealthy body? Stop and think for just a moment.
