How Do I Stop Eating — Advice for Bingers

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Hugh Campbell Not so long ago I was 70 lbs overweight (around five stone). My eating had become a problem. Although there were many foods I binged on, my worst crime was chocolate abuse. Yes sir, I was addicted to chocolate. Every single day I had to leave the house with the express purpose of buying a big bag of my favourite chocolate sweets. So if you find yourself screaming “How do I stop eating”, then believe me, you are not alone. Today I am 70 lbs lighter, because I managed to crack my binging habit, and in this article I will give you a good idea of how I did it. When I binged, I didn’t enjoy it. I knew exactly what I was doing to my body, and I hated myself for it. But I felt a pressing need every day to binge on certain foods. Each morning I would wake up with a huge desire for chocolate and, feeling unable to resist it, would try to figure out which shop to go to get my supplies. But one day I sat down and really examined why I did what I did. I started writing down how I felt about my binging, what I felt it gave me, and why I felt I had to get supplies every day. The only conclusion I could come to was that I used food to make me happy. It was a vicious cycle — I was fat, and had low self-esteem, and was therefore unhappy. Yet perversely, food made me happy (though only temporarily). All I was doing was consolidating my condition. So I just said to myself “Hang on. What if I just let junk food go? What if I just stopped eating chocolate?”. I knew it would be a rough few days to start with, but what if I could suck it up and accept the feelings of initial unhappiness? Eventually the weight would start to drop off. And guess what? That is exactly what I did. I stopped resisting. I let go of the dependence on junk food, got through the tough first week — like a withdrawal period — but then found it plain sailing. After a few weeks, I found myself with no desire for junk food whatsoever. If you’re screaming “How do I stop eating”, you have to realise that in 99% of cases, your over-indulgence is an emotional dependency. I’m willing to bet that deep down, you’re feeling unhappy. Now will you please realise that by eating junk food, you are simply satiating the unhappiness for a limited period of time. It is like a smoker. Nicotine isn’t actually a particularly strong physical addiction. Smoking is primarily a psychological addiction. If a smoker has a cigarette, then they put nicotine in their body which gradually subsides. As the nicotine disappears, so does the “hit”. As a result, the smoker lights up another cigarette in order to feel good. All the smoker would have to do to stop smoking is simplystop smoking! Let go. Stop instilling the nicotine which just starts a vicious cycle. It is the same thing with junk food. You feel unhappy — you eat junk food — you get a sugar “hit” — the hit starts to subside — you feel unhappy again — you eat more junk food. Do you see what a devastating cycle this is? If you want to beat the food addiction and actually live in a permanent state of happiness, then simply stop eating junk food. It is literally that easy. That doesn’t mean the first couple of weeks will be plain sailing — you will have to live with the unhappiness without the hit. But once you’re through that, the addiction could be kicked and the weight could fly off. The Fundamental Role of Marketing In Business

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Jassen Bowman One of the things that I think most people in the marketing world take for granted is that everybody understands the fundamental role of marketing in business. Through my daily interactions with other business owners over the past several years, however, I have been amazed at the relative lack of understanding about the importance of marketing. More often than not, marketing is a back seat, tertiary thought that comes after their product/service and daily operations, if its even that high of a priority. One of the phrases that my business partner, James Orr, has coined in the real estate investing realm is that everything starts with motivated sellers. Without motivated sellers, there are no properties to buy, rentals to put tenants in, fixer uppers to flip, or deals to wholesale. This is such an important aspect of real estate investing that its almost a mantra for the way that James and scores of other successful real estate investors run their businesses. The key to getting in touch with motivated sellers happens to be marketing. I guess that a good place to start in this discussion is to define what marketing is. Google define tells us that marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to satisfy customers. Marketing really does consist of more than what most people think it does. Marketing is more than just the activities that drive sales. Rather, marketing encompasses all the activities that seek to identify what consumers want and how to promote and deliver those goods and services. Before an individual or company ever even makes the decision to produce a particular product or service, they should first spend the time to determine if theres even a market for that offering. If there is a demand, they then need to figure out how to get that offering to the consumers that want it, how to tell consumers that its available, and how to price it such that there is money left over for a profit. This is all part of the marketing process, and really should occur before the product itself is even produced. In more common usage of the term, marketing is often seen as only the promotional aspect of a product or service that is already available. This part of marketing consists of making the consumer aware of what youre offering, and convincing them to buy it. There is a tendency in corporate environments to separate the marketing and sales functions into disparate departments, which is often a mistake. The purpose of the promotional element of marketing is to drive sales, and therefore the two functions are intricately connected. A good example of the disconnect between these two departments is when companies that sell capital equipment have vastly more people in their marketing departments than they do in their field sales force. Another example is when marketing and product development folks ignore the input from the field sales personnel. This input is often derived from actual customer contact, which most employees of large organizations dont experience. The prime purpose of one of my blogs is to test marketing promotions using a vast array of messages, media, and markets, which are often referred to as the three Ms of marketing. Before we conduct a test, we first do some background research to determine if there is even a market for what were considering selling, and we analyze whether or not we can at least break even on the marketing test using certain realistic assumptions about sales ratios. Pricing strategy is also something we discuss a lot before launching a new test. The actual development of sales copy, writing and placing ads, setting up measurement systems, etc., comes later in the process. Making sales and tracking metrics, then tweaking the marketing, comes next. Sadly, many business owners dont understand the importance of marketing. Because of this, they fail to plan for rough spots in the business cycle, such as off seasons, economic downturns, and other events. As the cliche goes, failing to plan is planning to fail. Every business should have a marketing plan of some sort, and it should be in writing. Companies that dont do marketing will invariably fail. In short, without marketing there are no sales. And without sales, there is no revenue. And without revenue, any business will quickly succumb to the statistics that show that nearly 2/3 of all businesses fail within their first 4 years. The Future of Marketing Part 1

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Michele Pariza Wacek It used to be if you were a small business, you were at a distinct disadvantage with your marketing compared to the bigger companies. No more. Small business owners will actually have an edge over bigger companies thanks to the emerging marketing model. Yes, you heard right. Emerging marketing model. The old ways of marketing are dying. And a new regime is coming of age. To understand how marketing is changing, it’s important to start with a bit of history. The image most of us have of marketing is based on an old communications model, one that was popular in, say, the 1970s. That was when we had three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS and NBC — no FOX either) a public station, one newspaper and a handful of magazines and radio stations. Trade magazines and newsletters were few and far between, we had no Internet and no e-mail. Because consumers had so few choices, it was fairly easy to market to them. Chances were pretty good they were watching, reading or listening to one of a handful of mass media sources. In fact, to be successful in this marketing model, all you really needed was money. Here’s how it worked. A business created a good product. The business hired an advertising agency. The agency spent thousands of dollars placing ads on the three network television stations and national magazines. Perhaps it also bought a few spots on local radio stations and newspapers. And if the ad budget was big enough, success was practically guaranteed. There was no mystery to marketing. Mostly it was a numbers game. Spend the money and get a return. Businesses were selling products. Mass media businesses were selling advertising space. Advertising agencies were buying space. Everyone was making money. And everyone was happy. Fast forward to 2004. Now, instead of three television channels we have hundreds. Instead of a handful of magazines we have dozens, including about a million trade publications. On top of that, we have the Internet and e-mail just begging for a piece of our time. Never before in the history of communications have audiences been so fragmented. Just finding your customers has turned into that old adage of finding a needle in a haystack. But thats not the only challenge — even if you do locate your customers thats no guarantee they’ll listen to you. Wherever we go, we are confronted by marketing message after marketing message. It’s been estimated that we’re bombarded with over 3,000 messages a day…and that number keeps going up. How have we responded? By learning to shut most of those messages out (which of course makes it even harder for marketers to get us to act upon their message). But the woes of the traditional marketing model don’t end there. The Internet has also introduced a little thing called accountability When you market online, you can track what people are looking at and, even more importantly, where you lost them in selling process. For instance, you can check your Web site stats and see which pages people entered your site and which pages made them leave. You can track what people clicked on in your e-mail campaign or if they clicked at all. With traditional or offline marketing, you only know if it worked (a customer bought something) or didnt (a customer didnt buy something). You dont know if they saw the ad, read the ad or what happened. All of this is bad news for those who have built their business on the traditional marketing model. But, it could be good news for you. Sweet Nothings

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Ron Zvagelsky Sweet nothings are words that are full of love and romance, gently whispered into your lovers ears. Women respond greatly to sweet nothings and having their necks kissed. When cuddling and embracing, try adding sweet nothings to increase and heighten the romantic atmosphere. Gently blowing in the ears, and whispering will bring arousal and pleasure, and is an important aspect of foreplay. Not only can you whisper in the ears, but also try kissing, licking, and sucking on earlobes for added excitement. If you have always wanted to whisper sweet nothings in your lovers ears, but didnt know what to say, here are some romantic quotations and phrases that you can use. Sweet Nothings: You have captured my heart Hear my words as I tell you how much I love you You are the only one for me Youre beautiful The night belongs to us alone Youre lips are as red as the most vibrant rose Youre hair is softer than the finest silk Youre eyes sparkle brighter then the stars Im yours forever Ill never stop loving you You are always on my mind I cant stop thinking of you You have filled the void in my heart You complete me My love for you will burn forever My heart beats for you Im hungry for you love Only your kisses satisfy my soul Can you feel my passion Dont you know I long for you Youre the lover of my soul I crave your touch My heart longs for you You are my desire I will never love another You are breath taking You take my breath away You are an angel from heaven I give you my heart, forever When we touch I melt in your arms I long to taste the sweetness of your lips Your love is better than wine I am drunk with your love I am honored to be loved by you I adore you I desire your embrace Hold me close and never let me go You are my one true passion I am passionately in love with you I long to caress you My heart belongs to you I cant stop thinking of you Your love is the drink that quenches my soul You satisfy me I hunger for your touch I need you, now Using any of these phrases or coming up with your own will have excellent results. Though women may differ in regards to how much they like their ears kissed or nibbled on, all women respond to sweet nothings. Cold Sore Medicine Review - Abreva

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Terry_Edwards] Terry Edwards You can find Abreva Cold Sore Treatment over-the-counter at most any pharmacy aisle in any store. Abreva is approved by the FDA and says it will reduce the healing time for a cold sore or fever blister. The question is, does it work? We will take a look in a minute. The Abreva product comes in a relatively tiny 2 gram tube. You can find it retailing for approximately $15 in all stores, or through the Internet. In reading the directions, it states that you should put the medicine directly on the area where you feel the cold sore coming on. You’re to do this 5 times throughout the day. Abreva says that the key is to begin treatment before the cold sore actually breaks out. As someone who has cold sores a couple of times during the year, I know how tough they can be to deal with, especially after breaking out. So, I’m always looking for a cold sore medicine that works. With that said, here is my review of Abreva. 1. I found myself having some trouble getting the package open. There is no way to get it open without scissors. Then, when you do get to it, the tube is very tiny, leaving you to wonder if there is anything in it. 2. I found that Abreva took almost a week to take away my pain, not a few days that the product claims. I must say, prescription cold sore medicine is much faster working. 3. Abreva Cold Sore Treatment didn’t eliminate my cold sore quickly. It did work, but not as well as other cold sore medications I’ve used in the past, and nowhere near as fast as a prescription. 4. I was out of Abreva after only 10 days of use. I used it exactly as the directions stated, but the tube didn’t last long. I was a little disappointed to say the least. I have talked with others who have had good luck with Abreva, but I’m not in that group. I can’t give Abreva a high rating compared to other cold sore medicines available.
